(tpu-v5e-slice-planning)= # Choose a {{ product_v5e }} slice shape Choose the slice shape for a {{ product_v5e }} TPU VM from the number of chips your workload needs, then check your quota before you create the VM. ```{include} ../_includes/tpu-warehouse--note-slice-shape.md ``` **CAUTION:** - Not enough Cloud TPU quota in the zone. - Cloud TPU quota limits the number of TPU cores your project can use in each zone, so a slice larger than your remaining quota can't be created. - Check your quota for the zone on the Quotas page of the Google Cloud console, and request an increase before you create the VM. 1. Find the number of chips your workload needs, and choose the topology that matches it. |Chips you need|Topology and hosts| |--------------|------------------| |**4**|2x2, half of one host| |**8**|2x4, one host| |**16**|4x4, two hosts| 2. Check the Cloud TPU quota in the zone where you plan to create the VM. 3. Create the VM with that topology. For the command, see [Create a TPU VM](tpu-create-vm.md). :::::{container} manifest-nav % manifest:published-in unfiltered,v5e **Parent topic:**[{{ product_v5e }}](../topics/tpu-v5e-intro.md) % manifest:end ::::: :::::{container} manifest-nav **Related information** % manifest:published-in unfiltered,v5e [{{ product_v5e }} specifications](../topics/tpu-v5e-specifications.md) % manifest:end % manifest:published-in unfiltered,v5e [{{ product_v5e }} supported configurations](../topics/tpu-v5e-configurations.md) % manifest:end % manifest:published-in unfiltered,v5e [{{ product_v5e }} VM types](../topics/tpu-v5e-vm-types.md) % manifest:end :::::
