Create a TPU VMΒΆ
Create a TPU VM for one generation. The command and software version depend on the generation, so build this topic with that generation's DITAVAL file.
You have a Google Cloud project with the Cloud TPU API enabled and quota in your chosen zone.
Set the project for the gcloud CLI:
gcloud config set project PROJECT_ID
Create the TPU v5e VM:
gcloud compute tpus tpu-vm create TPU_NAME \ --zone=ZONE \ --accelerator-type=ACCELERATOR_TYPE \ --version=v2-alpha-tpuv5-lite
Create the TPU v5p VM:
gcloud compute tpus tpu-vm create TPU_NAME \ --zone=ZONE \ --accelerator-type=ACCELERATOR_TYPE \ --version=v2-alpha-tpuv5
Create the TPU v6e (Trillium) VM:
gcloud compute tpus tpu-vm create TPU_NAME \ --zone=ZONE \ --accelerator-type=ACCELERATOR_TYPE \ --version=v2-alpha-tpuv6e
Create TPU7x (Ironwood) capacity with GKE or Compute Engine, using the tpu7x-standard-4t machine type.
Important: The Cloud TPU API is no longer under active development and is not supported on TPU7x (Ironwood) and later. Create TPU7x (Ironwood) capacity with Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) or Compute Engine.
Optional: To keep the VM off the public internet, add the
--internal-ipsflag.Tip: To create a TPU VM without an external IP address, add the
--internal-ipsflag. The VM can then reach Google APIs and services only through Private Google Access.
The VM appears in the list returned by gcloud compute tpus tpu-vm list --zone=ZONE.
